The project
Instructed by a large global law firm on behalf of the owner of a vessel that was left static for a number of months in high fouling challenge waters by the charterers.
Our role
Safinah was instructed to review the coating scheme and the condition of the underwater hull coating prior to the static period to confirm the coatings were in a good condition prior to the static period.
Safinah also provided expert opinion on the extent, type and maturity of the hull fouling that occurred during the static period. This also included a consideration of the expected damage that hull cleaning would occur in removing the fouling.
How Safinah added value
Based on the Safinah reports, the court maintained the claim by the owner for the extra costs required to cover full hull blasting and reapplication of the hull coatings at the next dry dock.
