Coating Consultant – Energy & Infrastructure

Reporting to: Market Sector Head

Safinah provides independent coating consulting and technical service inspections in the energy, infrastructure, marine and yacht sectors. Our clients include some of the world’s biggest, oil and gas, wind, marine, chemical processing and yacht owners globally, as well as many large insurance and legal organisations.

Safinah as an organisation has been around for 25 years and leads the market in its chosen sectors. The team consists of 80 people based globally, split across consulting and technical service teams, with close collaboration between the two maximising knowledge and customer value across both functions.

What we are looking for 

We are looking for an individual with a widespread knowledge accumulated over many years of active involvement in the coatings or corrosion markets.

Perhaps you’ve been working for the same supplier forever and are wondering where your next challenge will come from? Safinah consultants undertake many different challenging and interesting tasks, so keeping your working day varied and fresh is never a problem!

But we absolutely need people who have:

  • A desire to see coating solutions used to their full potential across a variety of industries when optimising product selection, customer specifications and coating process optimisation.
  • A curiosity for failure investigations to get to the bottom of detailed root cause analyses and complex expert witness work involving coatings.
  • A self-sufficient approach and have business acumen with good relationships with companies and individuals within the industry to develop your own business pipeline.
  • The ability to work independently when required and write and communicate effectively in English. Good independent reports are in our DNA so this one is an absolute must.
  • An ability to work across a wide variety of coating related tasks.

 

Requirements

  •  A BSc or MSc degree in a relevant science subject e.g. Chemistry, Materials, Corrosion, or other engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional coating related work experience.
  • Practical experience from a global paint manufacturer (commercial or technical) and / or direct industry based experience working for a facility operator, or their sub-contractors, in either the energy or infrastructure sector.
  • A flexible working approach with the ability to work on both on solo projects or working as part of a wider client-focused team.
  • Be able to travel globally (often at short notice) and work in typical energy, infrastructure, and industrial facilities.

Data Engineer with Dynamics 365 and System Administration Experience

What we are looking for 

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer with practical experience in data engineering, Dynamics 365, and system administration. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a candidate who can contribute to the development, maintenance, and integration of data pipelines, as well as assist with the configuration and administration of Dynamics 365. Key Responsibilities

 
Data Engineering
  • Take part in the design, creation, and upkeep of efficient data pipelines to process diverse data sources.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data requirements and participate in crafting data solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Play a role in optimising data workflows to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
  • Contribute to basic data documentation and assist in adhering to governance practices.
 
Dynamics 365 Integration
  • Assist in the configuration and basic customisation of Dynamics 365 to meet operational requirements.
  • Work closely with functional teams to grasp business processes and provide support for effective Dynamics 365 solutions.
  • Monitor and assist in troubleshooting Dynamics 365 integrations, ensuring seamless data flow.
 
System Administration
  • Support system administration activities, including assisting in the management of servers, databases, and cloud resources.
  • Participate in upholding security best practices and contribute to implementing necessary access controls for data protection.
  • Aid in monitoring system performance, identifying common issues, and engaging in routine maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with internal/external IT teams to contribute to the overall stability of our systems.
 
Technical Proficiency
  • Utilise basic programming skills to assist in scripting and automation for entry-level data processing and routine system administration tasks.
  • Show an eagerness to learn and stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in data engineering, Dynamics 365, and system administration.
 
Collaboration and Learning:

Learn from experienced team members and actively participate in collaborative projects.

Engage with fellow data engineers, data analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and contribute to data-driven initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, demonstrating practical exposure to data pipeline development. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field is desirable.
  • Good understanding and experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and data modelling concepts.
  • Basic familiarity with Dynamics 365, including configuration and entry-level customization, as well as a willingness to learn more.
  • Fundamental understanding of system administration concepts, coupled with a desire to engage in server, database, and cloud management tasks.
  • Entry-level proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, Java, or Scala for basic data processing and automation activities.
  • Interest and some practical experience in data governance, data quality, and data security practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working within a team environment.

  • Have a BSc or MSc degree in a relevant science subject e.g. Chemistry, Materials, Corrosion, or other engineering discipline;
  • Ideally a formulating or coating Chemist with subsequent field-based experience or a commercially related role such as sales, marketing, business development or senior management;
  • Experience of field-based coating inspections or supervision in the marine sector;
  • High level of IT skills and competency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Able to write and present effectively in English.
