The project

Safinah worked to support the client over a 2 year period on a $3.5bn legal claim for inadequate corrosion protection of a newly installed gas pipeline. Many of the field joint coatings were showing blistering and disbonding along the edges of the joint.

Our role

Safinah was able to show that the blistering was due to osmotic blistering. This blistering affected only the outer edges of epoxy field joint coating and not the corrosion protection provided.

How Safinah added value

Safinah provided technical assistance to the client throughout the claim which gave cost savings to the client and assurance that the asset was sufficiently protected from corrosion.

Jakov joined the industry as a Coating Inspector and has worked in the protective coating industry for over 37 years. He has a wealth of experience from technical leadership positions held in Europe, Middle East, Asia/Pacific and Americas.

His speciality is in surface treatment, corrosion and fouling protection by protective coatings; from coating system & specification design to field testing and implementation, practical application, risk management and failure analysis.

Prior to joining Safinah, Jakov was working as a Technical Service Director and Chief Consultant for Global Key Accounts in renewable energy, with one of the major, global suppliers of coating solutions to Marine, Energy, Infrastructure, Industrial and Decorative sectors.
