Abstract
The application of protective coatings is a critical consideration in the maintenance and operation of pressure vessels subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures. While coatings are widely utilised for structural steel protection, their selection and implementation for pressure systems require significantly greater scrutiny.
The consequences of improper coating selection or application are magnified by challenges such as limited access to internal surfaces in operational environments and external insulation that can obscure inspection opportunities.
Undetected corrosion in pressurised systems, particularly those containing hydrocarbons, can lead to catastrophic outcomes, underscoring the importance of a systematic approach to coating selection and maintenance.
