Safinah Group’s Marine Consulting Team members Carl Barnes and Dr Michael Aamodt participated in two of the expert panels on coatings as part of RivieraMM’s Marine Coatings Webinar Week (6-10 July 2020).
Dr Michael Aamodt, who has more than 25 years of experience in the Marine and Protective coatings industry including as an R&D paint chemist, participated in the first session on tank coatings, which took place on 7th July 2020.
His talk focused on the chemical tanker market data and trends, major market drivers from owner/operator’s perspective, review of current tank coating technology options and benefits and challenges related to “low absorption” tank coatings.
Amongst others, he was joined by Johnny Eliasson, Hull & Coatings Engineer, Chevron Shipping Co.

Carl Barnes, Head of Marine Consulting at Safinah Group and an expert in marine fouling control, took part in the session on hull coatings, which took place on 8th July 2020.
Carl discussed the effect of drag caused by marine fouling and explored the many factors that make up the unique fouling challenge that ships are subjected to. These included the environmental aspects, such as water temperature and latitude, as well as vessel aspects, such as speed and activity. The talk concluded by discussing ship-specific fouling control product selection based on functional specifications.
