Fadzli Omar joins the Safinah Group as Business Development Manager (Asia).
Background
Before joining Safinah, I worked in the coating industry for over 15 years as a Senior Coating Advisor and Project Manager (Special Projects) for one of the world’s largest marine and protective coatings companies. I was actively involved in setting up new initiatives catered to shipowners and managers including sea stock management programmes and a digital reporting tool. Collaborating with a team coming from both technical and commercial backgrounds, it was a career milestone for me to help create a piece of software which provided a solution to the challenges and expectations of its audience.
Working with diverse people in a wide variety of cultural settings, I have developed the ability and flair to home in on my customer’s needs to deliver appropriate solutions for them.
Role at Safinah Group
I started out in Safinah’s Technical Department as one of the Coating Superintendents and took on the role of Regional Business Development Manager in 2021. My role is to expand the customer base within marine, protective coatings (energy and infrastructure), yachting and the legal/insurance sectors within the Asian Region and also Australia.
Asia being regarded as one of the busiest hubs in Marine Transportation and Business, I am responsible for introducing Safinah Group into the different market segments here helping to add value to their various projects and work scope in terms of all coating-related issues.
What challenges do you expect your role to bring?
Presenting Safinah’s extensive knowledge and expertise is a huge but manageable challenge for me. This is because the commercial pitch is to convince how our service attendance can add value to a project and how better coating advice and quality can sustain the expected long-term performance of an asset.
What parts of your new role do you look forward to?
I am looking forward to working with a team of experts and being able to offer clients an amazing range of services which can add true value to their projects and help them maximise the use of their assets. I am excited to go out and meet more people and share our expertise with clients here in Asia.
Favourite hobbies and interests?
Cycling. Ever since an old knee injury stopped me from running long distances and engaging in contact sports, I have switched to cycling and this hobby has brought my entire family together. We set ourselves a weekly goal where we cover various distances and terrains around Singapore.
